US-based flexible packaging solutions provider LPS Industries has introduced two new packaging films to its portfolio.

One is ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) while the other is ultrathin made of nanoparticles. Both films offer oxygen barrier properties and are said to be environmentally friendly.

According to the company, these films can be used as an alternative to PVDC (Saran coated) films in the flexible packaging industry.

LPS Industries vice president Domenick Pasqualone said the two new films have been developed to address the customers' needs and to position them to successfully address current and future cost and regulatory challenges in the food, snack, coffee, tea and pet markets.

"Our solution is a new film that combines PET with a coextruded Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol copolymer (EVOH)," Pasqualone added.

PVOH is also crystal clear, odorless and safe for consumable product contact and can also provide multiples of the oxygen barrier properties of PVDC-coated PET.

"Nanoparticles, which are so small that individual particles are invisible to the human eye, are truly cutting edge technology."

The company's new nanoparticle-based film has a coating and offers better oxygen and moisture barrier properties.
